5 people have died and 2 others have been injured in a truck crash near a volcano in Papua New Guinea, authorities said on Friday.
The incident took place near Mount Kipah in central Papua New Guinean province, according to the Papua New Gauteng Regional Police.
Two of the injured were found dead in the truck, which was carrying four other people, the police said in a statement.
One person, a 29-year-old man from the town of Mababai, was reported to have died.
The other two, aged 35 and 40, were treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The four others, a 45-year old man from Mababa, and a 52-year Old man from Sibudu, were reported to be in stable condition.
Authorities said the truck driver was not hurt.
The accident occurred just after 6:30 p.m. local time on Friday, police said.
The road to the crater, where the accident occurred, was closed for safety reasons, they said.
